Coastal Modified Series
A Dirt Modified Racing Series Taking The
Green Flag In 2011 Along The Gulf Coast!

December 19, 2010

Racers,

I am still working on trying to put a series together for our area.  For whatever reasons I cannot get the tracks in the AL/FL Gulf Coast area to commit to a race.   On the other hand, Robert Casada of Petal, MS is starting a topless series for the modifieds - the Mississippi Modified Challenge Series (MMCS).  You may have seen talk of this at the following website... http://www.midsouthforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=85626

Robert has several tracks already commited to hosting races... Whynot Motorsports Park (Meridian, MS) - 1 race, Jackson Motor Speedway (Byram, MS) - 2 races, Hattiesburg Motorsports Park (Hattiesburg, MS) - 1 race, and Southern Raceway (Milton, FL) - 2 races.  He may add other races but that has yet to be determined.

Dates & details are still coming together.  But I urge you to check out his website.
http://www.wix.com/modman9/mmcs
Send him your name, contact info, and a picture of your car if your are interested in participating in that series.  Rules for that series will basically be UMP but the races will all be topless events (No roofs/No sail panels).

This could be a sign of good things to come for modifieds in the south.  This will help exposure of our division in the sport.  If you have any interest in sponsoring the series or have any leads on potential sponsors... contact & send that information to Robert.  All of his contact info is on that website.  The MMCS series developing could possibly even lead to us establishing our series along our portion of the Gulf Coast in AL and FL.  Best of luck and I will keep you up to date on any news that may come forth.

Merry Christmas!

Dear Fans & Racers,

At this time we will not be moving forward to have a 2010 season for the Coastal Modified Series (CMS).  I am very excited to see there are over 40 drivers that want to participate in such a series as the CMS in this region.  I am also very enthused about the number of potential sponsors that want to take part in the series as well.

However, as most of you know, we have had difficulty getting tracks to commit to hosting an event.  Most tracks in the Gulf Coast area have expressed some sort of interest in the CMS but for whatever reasons have declined to actually schedule a race.  I want to thank Robert at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Mississippi, and Joe & Kevin at Smokey Harris Raceway in Haleburg, AL.  They were interested in doing a race from the beginning.  However, I feel that without having at least 2 of the 5 tracks in the Pensacola area hosting events and being the backbone of this series, it would not work.

I felt that if there was not something set in stone in the way of a partial schedule by Memorial Day weekend, I should postpone trying to get this off the ground till 2011.  The last thing I want to do is to upset sponsors or potential sponsors and run them off.  So I also feel that it was in the best interest of the series to let them know something instead of leaving them hanging.  I would like to thank each and every one of you who supported this effort and helped pass the word around about it.

This is in no way the end of my efforts.  If later this summer and fall we can get a few “warm up races” put together to test the waters for next season, we will do so.   If that does not happen I will definitely be working on scheduling races for the 2011 season if the interest is there.  I hope that you do not give up on me as I will not be giving up on doing this for you.

There has been some false and misleading information regarding myself and my motives in getting this series started.  I have come to learn years ago, unfortunately that is just part of being involved in the motorsports industry.  I hope that if you did not hear something from me, you do not believe it.  Many of you that know me realize that I have a deep passion for this sport.  I always have, and I hope I always will.  I am not trying to make money or take advantage of anyone.  I see a need to help the modified racing division in this area and no one has tried to step up to the plate to do so.  I feel that trying to do something is what I need to do.

A bit about me and my involvement in the racing world:  A fan since age 7 when I saw my first race. Since age 12 I have worked on and pitted for many different types of successful race teams including dirt mini stocks, mini sprints, bombers, street stocks, sportsman, late models, midgets, modifieds and asphalt trucks, late models, and modifieds.  I was employed by a major motorsports parts distributor for a few years before moving to the Gulf Coast.  I was the Race director and Head scorer for a national truck racing series for 2 years before it was sold.  Employed by a few different speedways on different occasions to help with administration duties as well as to help promote & score.  I have also filled in as a flagman a few times as well as assisting in tech inspections.  I have also raced dirt stock cars for 5 years.  I have written race reports and articles for over 10 years featured on various websites, newspapers, and magazines.

I tell you this to not try to tell anyone I am an expert on anything, but to show that racing is my life, just behind God and my family.  I am very involved and take pride in what I do.  The last thing I want to do is to take advantage of or try to hurt anyone in the motorsports world.  I have been on every side of the fence and see what it takes to be fair and successful in racing.  My only wish at this time is that for the racing teams and tracks not wanting this series to happen, to please seek me out and get to know me.  Also, to stop listening to the rumors put in place by someone that has nothing better to do than to drag others down with them.

Again, I will continue working on trying to get something for the CMS put in place for the 2011 season if the racers are still interested in me getting something put together.  Feel free to contact me with any concerns, questions, or ideas.  Best of luck to all of the racers and speedways in 2010!

Sincerely,

Kelly Freeman

Hey drivers, teams & fans...  hitting some walls getting races scheduled but I'm not giving up and I hope you have not gave up on me.  Help us out by telling your promoter you want a CMS race at the track!

We have tracks to the far east and far west of the area wanting to do something but we need a few of our local tracks to get in on this.  I want this to be for the drivers right here in the Mobile/Greenville/Pensacola/Crestview areas.

I really do not want to put this off till next season and I'm sure most of you drivers don't either because of the lack of tracks racing mods this season.  We have a ton of talent right here around home and it would be so cool to see you on the track together at our events a hand full of nights this season.

Thanks for everyones support so far!

We are still in talks with potential sponsors and tracks.  I hate that there is not much to report at this time, but hope to have something in the near future.  We presently have 40 drivers wanting to participate in the series listed on the drivers page.  The interest is definately here... we just need some help getting the tracks to commit to a race.  We're getting there... it's just a slow process.  We hope you all can help talk us up.  The rules are getting close to complete, but do not expect any real big change from what the modifieds currently run.  It's mainly going to be clarifications and eliminations of gray areas.  Good luck at your local tracks and I hope to have some series race dates soon!  Thanks again for everyones support.

Things are progressing nicely!  In talks with potential sponsors and a few tracks.  I hope to have some information later this week regarding the schedule.  Thanks to everyone who is being so supportive in this endeavor.  I never realized how much work this might be to put a series together, but things are moving along.  To date we have 34 drivers interested in racing with the CMS listed on the drivers page.  Just keep checking back and I hope you will find new information on the site soon!

We've got a decent number of drivers signing up as being interested in racing with the series.  Please help spread the word to any modified drivers you know about the CMS.  We hope to get some races on the schedule pretty soon.  The more drivers that we can show as wanting to take part, the better the chances of getting races on the schedule.  We truelly appreciate you taking the time to visit our website.  You may also find us on Facebook and Myspace by searching for Coastal Modified Series.

Dear Racers, Fans, and Tracks,

In the coming months you will find information on this website regarding the Inaugural Season of the Coastal Modified Series (CMS).  We are trying to secure about 8 to 10 races for this season.  If we cannot get this put together for the 2010 season, we will for 2011.  The cars will be based on UMP/IMCA style modifieds.

Potential tracks on the schedule will be in the Florida Panhandle, South Alabama, South Mississippi, and perhaps Southeast Louisiana.  This will be a regional tour focused on promoting our dirt modified racers in this area.  However, we always have the welcome mat out for the occasional or frequent visitors from other parts of the country.

We are trying to settle on a purse that is not only affordable to the tracks but is also fair to the drivers. We will try to schedule races on weekends spread out through the season with nice breaks between those weekends.   We want to do this so that you may either race your home track, race other series', or just take a rest between CMS weekends.

The CMS will have a points system throughout the season with those top finishers being honored at an awards banquet.  We hope to have prizes to give away at the banquet in addition to cash awards.  Plans are to have prizes given out at each race to our drivers for achievements such as a Pole Award & Hard Charger Award among others.

Currently the CMS is in the process of securing race dates and sponsors as well as finalizing our rules.  Information you will soon see on the website will include those Dates, Sponsors, Rules, Purse, Race Procedures, and Drivers interested in racing in the series.

If you are interested in securing a race date at your speedway, sponsoring the series in any way, or just have a question or input... feel free to send an email to us at coastalmodifiedseries@hotmail.com.  Drivers, please visit the Drivers &
Teams Page on this website to show us if you are interested and to sign up for updates.  You may also find us on Facebook by simply searching for Coastal Modified Series.

Thank you for you interest and support,
Coastal Modified Series
